As we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are reminded of her profound role as the mother of Jesus and a universal mother to all. Born into humble circumstances, Mother Mary’s life was marked by hardship, struggle, and unwavering resilience. Yet, despite her difficulties, her kindness, love, and grace continued to shine, offering solace and strength to all who turned to her.
Mary’s life exemplifies the silent but powerful strength of women. From her early days as a young girl, she carried the weight of a divine calling with humility and courage. At a time when women had little voice, she accepted the responsibility of bearing and raising the Son of God. This journey was not without hardship – from fleeing into Egypt to witnessing the crucifixion of her own son – but through it all, Mary’s resilience never wavered. She stood firm, her heart full of hope and trust in God’s plan.
In today’s world, Mother Mary continues to be a symbol of hope and protection, especially for women and girls. Her story reflects the struggles that many women still face – from societal expectations to personal challenges. Yet, like Mary, women around the world show remarkable strength and endurance. They balance the demands of family, career, and society with grace and courage, often sacrificing their own needs for the good of others.
As we reflect on Mother Mary’s life, let us also turn our attention to the girl child. In many places, girls still face discrimination, lack of access to education, and societal pressures. Mother Mary’s story is a reminder of the potential each girl carries within her – to rise above challenges, to persevere, and to lead with love and compassion.
Mary’s nurturing spirit invites us to recognize the dignity of every woman and girl. She is a beacon of strength, inspiring us to foster environments where girls and women are celebrated, supported, and empowered to fulfill their God-given potential. On this Feast of the Nativity, may we honour Mary by uplifting and advocating for the rights and well-being of all women and girls, just as she continues to guide and protect us all.
